About Soraya Berent
Soraya Berent’s orchestral work debuted in Geneva’s most active field of Jazz & Improvised music : « AMR ». After writing/arranging for big band, voices & piano pieces, she finally focuses on her own Quartet (2008), giving her compositional skills a chance to be expressed in a standard and most difficult form. Strongly designed for vocal performance, her first instrument is the leader. Inspired at first to re-arrange modal repertoire from her favourites (J. Coltrane, W. Shorter, J. Lee, F. Hersch), she persevered in finding the right combination between the amazing jazz heritage acquired (in study and devotion) and her own music ; chosing an acoustic sound, pulling forward the natural & close contact.
